On Saturday, the team went up the mountain to distribute clothes to families, give water, and install the rotoplast. The clothes were distributed family by family to address specific needs noted while completing surveys. The rotoplast, which will be the back-up water storage for the future well, was moved uphill and settled in the ground. [...]

On Sunday, as the team was preparing to leave, the political situation in Honduras was beginning to escalate a bit. By the time the team was scheduled to leave, a curfew was in effect. Jeff Hines had personally gone to the Police Commissioner and gotten permission to travel, but that wouldn’t necessarily guarantee passage through [...]

We went up to the mountain early today and stayed until 4pm. The surveys were officially finished and cinder blocks were laid for the walls of the latrines. It doesn’t sound like much, but there are a ton of pictures, we’ll let them do the talking! We’re sad that our trip is winding down; we [...]

Today was a full day of work for the team! The big, strong men went to work on latrines for some families and the women continued working on surveys and health checkups. Here’s the video of the men moving the slab down the steep, steep hill (the video doesn’t do it justice). Note the magic [...]

Today was a long day on the mountain. There were 4 teams this time, each with a translator and armed with surveys and care packages. Originally, we had planned for each group to visit with 4 families, 2 before lunch and 2 after. The surveys ended up taking longer than originally anticipated, so we only [...]

A day of rest! (well, mostly…) The team started with the children’s service at the church, where they were able to get to know many of the kids that attend the Centro de Amistad (Jeff and Julie’s church). Afterwards, they went back to the Hines for a comida típica (typical dish), arroz con pollo (rice [...]

Today was the team’s first trip up the hill to Las Delicias! After assembling care packages (filled with beans, rice, shortening, sugar, salt, toothpaste, children’s vitamins, and a soccer ball) the group broke into 4 teams to distribute them. The men arrived on the scene first and spent their time giving out drinking water. Some [...]

The New Life Missions Team arrived safely in San Pedro Sula last night and rolled into La Ceiba around 2:00 am. After some much needed sleep, they ate pancakes and learned about the Hines family story as well as some much needed info about Honduran missions. After orientation, there was some sight-seeing downtown and then [...]
